The quick hands and feet of the Usyk were a nightmare for its Witherspoon at Chicago, till his rival could not continue, and he landed punches at will.
The success was a textbook debut in the heavyweight division for Usyk, who last year became the undisputed cruiserweight champion by winning the World Boxing Super Series. He signalled his intention to eventually become just the third boxer ever to bring a domain to cruiserweight gold.
Usyk was almost two and a half stone lighter compared to his opponent, and it revealed, but in addition, it gave his speed along with his toes since he glided in and out of scope.
His hand in the southpaw stance began to slip through Witherspoons guard of finding his time, following a couple of rounds.
Witherspoon, a 38-year-old who came in at a couple of days notice to substitute Tyrone Spong, tried to thunder counter punches that were large and he could never be discouraged by him even though he did occasionally grab Usyk.
The motion of usyk began to drown. The Ukrainian was able to land shots at will in the first time round. The referee considered stopping the fight here, but didnt behave.
From the Usyk searched for its knockout, landing a barrage of shots that are unanswered. Witherspoon remained erect but wilted back into his stool, and also couldnt get up.
Usyk keeps his status as the challenger to the WBO title that Andy Ruiz Jr will defend against Anthony Joshua on December 7, now live on Sky Sports Box Office. Following year, usyk hopes to dispute the winner.
